If I was a character in Romeo and Juliet, then I would be Benvolio. Benvolio is peaceful, taciturn, and loyal. I believe that I express these characteristics in my life, as well. I do not enjoy violence and instead enjoy being with friends. While reading some of the parts of Benvolio, I realized that much of what Benvolio was saying and acting was much like the way I would say it or act it. I can relate with Benvolio the best in Romeo and Juliet.
Romeoand Juliet is very similar to high school. In this case, Romeo is a nerd on the Math Team (Montagues), and Juliet is a cheerleader on the cheer squad (Capulets). The two are very different. The Prince will be the principal since he rules over all the students (citizens of Verona), and he also has a son who goes to the school and is a class clown (Mercutio). The Math team coach is Lord Montague, and the lead cheerleader is Lady Capulet. Lady Capulet's football star boyfriend will be Lord Capulet. Benvolio is Romeo's best friend, so he is also on the Math Team. The Nurse is the cheer squad manager, and since Juliet is such a good cheerleader, Juliet and the Nurse are good friends. The cheerleaders are constantly picking on the nerds, and the nerds place stink bombs in the cheerleader locker room (feud). Friar Laurence is a teacher and likes to see young love, so he helps Romeo and Juliet get into the school after hours, so they can then see each other (Friar Laurence marries them). Tybalt spreads a rumor about the principal's son, who gets so embarrassed that he drops out of school (Tybalt kills Mercutio). Tybalt is the dumb jock who thinks he is invincible, until Romeo chews him out in front of all his friends, so Tybalt the jock is popular no more (Romeo kills Tybalt). Romeo gets kicked off the Math Team for being rude to Tybalt, and he had to go back to basic courses (Romeo gets banished to Mantua) while Juliet takes advanced courses.The potion is that Juliet "transfers" schools, but it is just to get away from the cheerleaders, because they were mean to the nerds. Romeo thinks that Juliet is gone forever, so he drops out of high school (Romeo kills himself). Juliet comes back because she thought it over for a couple of hours and came back. She then finds Romeo gone. She then drops out (Juliet kills herself). The nerds and cheerleaders are in disarray with their losses and turn to each other for support. THE END
I think that the story of Romeo and Juliet is very similar to young love today. Many girls think that their boyfriend is "the one for them", and it makes them do ridiculous things. Most will not go to the extremes that Romeo and Juliet went to. Their love blinds to the reality of life, and it can severely damage their life. Examples are like getting pregnant, dropping out of high school, or doing drugs. Love can make a person do weird things.
In Romeo and Juliet, one of the motivations to get out of Verona was to get away from the feud of the Montagues and the Capulets. My brother-in-law grew up in a small town. When he grew up, he wanted to leave the small town and move to a bigger city where he thought there would be more advantages. I can relate that to Juliet's reasoning for wanting to leave Verona. Although the big city provided more advantages, it also provided a lot of challenges. If Juliet had left Verona, she would have to deal with not being close to family and friends, and she would also have no support, since she would not know anyone in Mantua.

Romeo and Juliet have arrived in Mantua. Juliet takes care of the housekeeping along with her daughter in tow. Romeo decides to take up the job as a playwright, but times are hard. He tries to bring in money for the family, but all they could afford was the hut that they called home. One night Romeo thinks that he has created an amazing tale of star crossed lovers, who are forbidden to love. He bases it off his own life, but decides to end it in tragedy. It turns out that the citizens love it! The play that would last through the ages was John & Maria. They were in the middle of a horrible feud between the Mopulets and the Cantogues. John is a Mopulet in love with a Cantogue, but they must not profess their hidden love to the public. They must escape but will they make it? Come to the Globe Theatre tonight at 7 p.m. to find out for only 4 cents!
